The alliedFutures Project
A journey from Truth to Reconciliation and beyond.
In Partnership with Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth, Mount Royal University and WilderFutures.
Coming March 2022
A guided event series led by a community of settlers, Elders and knowledge keepers.
An educational toolkit to get informed, unlearn and unsettle.
As leaders in our community, it is time to unpack what it means to be a settler in Treaty 7 Territory. To move from allyship to accomplice. Values to actions. Settler to Unsettler. Learn how to consciously disrupt your mindset and the spaces you’re in.
Throughout the month of March, we invite leaders and teams across Treaty 7 to join the five-part webinar series, following the journey from ‘Sitting in Truth’ to ‘Allyship’ and continuing on to 'Reconciliation and Action’.
Partnered with an online, interactive toolkit with a variety of resources and reflexive learning and unlearning opportunities, as a collective we’ll create a space for discussion and knowledge sharing to guide and educate ourselves as we step beyond the 94.
The Journey
-
Begin the journey by reflecting and critically thinking about our own beliefs, our own truths, how we fit into the world. When we begin to accept how we identify ourselves, we have the ability to change our interactions, expand our own perspectives to create a more equitable and inclusive world.
-
Those who have influence create change. As leaders in our community, we have the power to create appropriate and positive movements that will shape our society for the better. As allies we will work alongside traditionally marginalized groups, and make moves towards a common goal.
-
Shift our thinking and position from ally to accomplice. Together, we’ll take the necessary steps to create a brave space filled with courageous conversations. Once we’ve listened, we’ll leap into action and work towards dismantling the structures that oppress traditionally marginalized groups and individuals.
-
Collectively, we’ll tear down the systems that oppressed Indigenous nations in Canada. Build bridges of perspective, empathy, openness and possibility by forming and honouring reciprocal relationships and shared human experiences.
-
Together and individually we’ll take responsibility for reconciliation. With the understanding and knowledge gained through our unsettler journey, we will begin to make changes and shape our future relationships with all communities and peoples.
